The UK is working with international partners to build global ambition on water security and support preparations for a successful and action-orientated 2026 UN Water Conference.
We recognise the critical importance of water security, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) for progress on health, health security, women and girls, economic growth, climate and nature and the Sustainable Development Goals, and we welcome the new Water Forward initiative launched at the World Bank Spring Meetings. We are working with Multilateral Development Banks to drive access to climate-resilient and inclusive WASH services and attract additional financial resources to the sector, including from private investors, to accelerate progress and scale up results. We will also continue to support WASH through our recently established Communities of Expertise, working with partner countries to build more resilient, sustainable and equitable health systems and support healthier lives.
Priorities for the UK's 2027 G20 Presidency will be set out in the usual way in due course.

The Government is strengthening international collaboration on the development, validation and acceptance of alternative methods, including through engagement with regulators and key international partners. We are currently exploring how the UK’s 2027 G20 Presidency could support these efforts, including by convening regulators to advance international harmonisation. This builds on ongoing work to develop a coordinated international engagement approach and identify priority areas for regulatory cooperation. Further detail on international activity, including potential forums and timelines, will be set out in the delivery update to the Replacing Animals in Science strategy, to be published later in 2026.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit will take place in Florida in December, preceded by the meeting of Foreign Ministers in Georgia in October, and the meeting of Finance Ministers in North Carolina in August.
All these meetings will have at their heart the need to restore growth and stability to the world economy, and to deal with the ongoing impact of the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.
It is in all our interests for these meetings to be a success, and we are working closely with our US counterparts towards that end.

The UK is a member of the UN Intergovernmental Expert Working Group on Adequate Housing for All, and was consulted at the Expert Group and Intersessional Thematic Meeting on the Definition of Homelessness, which met in October 2025 to work on improving the consistency, comparability, and scope of member states' data on homelessness. The Group will meet again in November 2026 to review recommendations that will inform the UK-supported UN-Habitat strategy for 2026-29, including its goals to reduce homelessness globally.
Next January, the United Kingdom will take the chair of the G20, providing our country with a real platform to lead international conversations and to deliver here at home. Will the Minister tell the House what our priorities will be when we take the chair and what plans we have across Government to make the most of this unique position?

The UK is working closely with Commonwealth partners to ensure this year's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda addresses the challenges of today's world, in particular delivering increased intra-Commonwealth trade, investment and economic security, strengthening the Commonwealth's commitment to democracy, and deepening collaboration on protecting the environment.
We will set out our priorities for other future international meetings in the usual way in due course, including next year's G20 summit.

The UK is already one of the world’s leading sustainable finance centres, and our focus is how to evolve and expand. The Financial Services Growth and Competitiveness Strategy set out how the government will strengthen the UK to support the domestic and global transition and drive growth across the financial services sector.
We are delivering a number of targeted initiatives, prioritising changes that will make the greatest impact – for example, making the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards available and bringing ESG ratings into the regulatory perimeter. This will boost investor protection and UK competitiveness and allow the UK’s world-leading sustainable finance sector to adapt and continue to develop the innovative products which have propelled the UK’s sustainable finance leadership.
In addition, we are focused on making the UK a global hub for transition finance. This is not only essential for meeting global net-zero goals, but also represents a major opportunity for UK economic growth and investment.
We are still in the early stages of planning for our G20 Presidency. No decisions have been made on structure or topics but we expect a strong focus on growth and resilience, including the G20’s role in addressing vulnerabilities and managing global shocks.

The UK is committed to putting women and girls at the heart of everything we do. This includes ensuring the multilateral system remains a powerful tool for gender equality. The UK has used the G7 and G20 to secure strong commitments for progress on women and girls and will continue to do so, including through working with this year's G7 and G20 Presidencies and during our own G20 Presidency year in 2027.
