We have not received any recent representations on the future of the bingo industry, but I am aware of such representations being made to my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer.We recognise the important social role bingo clubs play in many communities and continue to engage with the industry on a range of issues affecting the state of the sector.

The Government's 2012 Legacy Action Plan (LAP), published in June 2008, sets a cross-Government target to get two million more adults active through sport and physical activity by 2012. DCMS and Sport England lead on getting one million more people doing more sport. A range of Government Departments will deliver programmes that will increase wider physical activity. Many of these programmes are outlined in the Department of Health's new Physical Activity Plan 'Be Active, Be Healthy' published on 11 February 2009.Baselines for the two million and sports targets will be established using the 2007-08 Active People Survey. The baseline for Sport England's one million sports target is 6.8 million, whereas the baseline for the wider two million target will be calculated to take account of the additional data collected on dance and gardening from January 2009 onwards.A newly established Physical Activity Programme Board, chaired jointly by the Department of Health and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, will oversee the delivery of the programmes against the LAP target.

Funding for grassroots sport in London is available from a number of sources including local authority expenditure, Exchequer funding from DCMS via Sport England, and lottery funding via Sport England. The following figures do not include funding for national schemes that may have been spent within these boroughs. This information could only be provided at disproportionate cost. Funding for grassroots sport in London is available from a number of sources including local authority expenditure, Exchequer funding from DCMS via Sport England, and lottery funding via Sport England. We do not hold information on local authority expenditure, and it is not possible to provide final Exchequer or lottery projections at this stage of the financial year. Sport England has provided the following projections based on confirmed awards to date. Final spend will only be known after the end of the financial year.
Spending for the period from April 2009 will be through the new Sport England funding framework outlined in their new strategy published in June of this year. Funding will be directed primarily through national governing bodies in light of the Whole Sport Plans which are currently being considered by Sport England.

The public prisons’ costs quoted are the direct costs of each establishment and exclude Prison Service headquarters, depreciation and cost of capital charge on land and buildings, major maintenance and rates. The private prison costs are the direct cost of each establishment, including controllers and exclude depreciation, cost of capital charge/credit, repayment of capital, and rates.There are also a number of factors which affect the costs of prisons and so comparisons must be made with caution. These factors include: the size of prison, its age, its design, the occupancy level, the prison security level, the type of prisoner and the activities carried on in the prison.

NOMS undertakes a rolling programme of refurbishment on the prison estate. As schemes come back into use following refurbishment, other schemes are taken forward and the accommodation is taken out of use.Of the 8,000 new prison places announced by the Home Secretary in July 2006, approximately half will be on sites not currently occupied by prisons. The programme is still in the planning stages and the number of places to be provided beyond 2007 has not been finalised. However, this year the capacity of the prison estate will increase in total by around 2,200 places. This includes 700 places from the 8,000 programme and the remainder from already planned expansions. All of the new places this year will be provided at existing prison sites.The estimated total capital cost of the new 8,000 places is around £1.5 billion. The breakdown of costs in each of the next five years has not yet been finalised.

I have been asked to reply.In the Review of the Criminal Justice System published on 20 July we said that Custody Plus will not go ahead in autumn 2006 as previously planned. We shall not implement Custody Plus until we are satisfied that sufficient resources are available to allow this to proceed.

The percentage of unfair dismissal claims upheld by an Employment Tribunal which resulted in an order for reinstatement in each of the last four years ranges consistently from 0.1 to 0.2 per cent. of cases.

The Government introduced new Dispute Resolution Regulations and Tribunal Rules of Procedure in October 2004. These are designed to improve the chance of workplace disputes being resolved in the workplace, without having to resort to full tribunal hearings. This includes claims for unfair dismissal. We have committed to carrying out a review of the Regulations in October 2006, two years after their introduction.
