Answer: Sir David Knox: To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many (a) in-patients and (b) out-patients were treated in NHS hospitals in Wales in the most recent year for which figures are available; and what were the figures in 1979. [18842] Mr. Gwilym Jones: The number of in-patients and day cases treated in Welsh hospitals has more than doubled between 1979 and 1995-96 from 381,000 to 774,000. The number of out-patients rose by over 40 per cent. in the same period from 1,803,000 to 2,569,000.
