The power in clause 49 of the Representation of the People Bill is intended to support the provision of election-related information to electors, including information about elections and referendums in their area, candidates standing for election and polling station locations. Government discussions with the Electoral Commission on the use of this power have therefore focused on how best to improve access to this information for voters. They have not focused on requirements for the publication of official turnout figures for local contests.

Returning Officers are responsible for publishing election results in their local areas and the Government has no current plans to introduce a uniform approach to the publication of local election results by local authorities.
The intention of the power is to improve the availability and consistency of election related information. The Government is working with the Electoral Commission to consider how this power can best support practical improvements to elector-facing information.

Mandatory information standards will be introduced in a staged process. The process will include considering the costs and benefits of making any standard mandatory. There is no decision or timeline yet for issuing a mandatory NHS Accessible Information Standard.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps his Department are taking to help ensure that epilepsy patients and their families have access to readily-available information of SUDEP risk and prevention.
The Government is taking steps to support a more proactive and preventative approach to epilepsy care through earlier recognition and improved management. Guidance published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) sets clear expectations for timely diagnosis, regular review and assessment of seizure control and associated risks, and referral to specialist services where needed.
NHS England supports this approach through national programmes such as Getting It Right First Time and NHS RightCare, which promote consistent use of guidelines, strengthen multidisciplinary care, and help improve early identification and ongoing management of epilepsy across the National Health Service.
The Government is also taking steps to ensure people with epilepsy and their families have access to clear information on sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) risk and prevention. NICE guidance recommends that clinicians discuss SUDEP risk from diagnosis and revisit this regularly, including providing personalised advice on reducing risk. NHS England supports this through training programmes developed with SUDEP Action, which improve clinician awareness and communication of risk.

In 2024 Ministers reluctantly granted limited exemptions from the Public Service Vehicles (Accessible Information) Regulations 2023 (AIR) to enable essential rail replacement services to continue operating due to a shortage of compliant coaches. We have been clear with the rail and coach sectors that we do not intend to extend this exemption.
The Government understands and recognises the specific challenges to comply with AIR within the rail replacement sector. We continue to work with partners, including the Rail Delivery Group, DfT Operator Limited and bus and coach trade bodies, to assess the sector’s readiness for full compliance across the whole rail network, and to provide support to help them achieve this. This includes the development of new technological solutions for providing information on board coaches, funding for smaller operators, and the existing time-limited exemption from the technical requirements of AIR.

Since 2016, all National Health Service organisations and publicly funded social care providers have been expected to meet the Accessible Information Standard (AIS), which details the approach to supporting the information and communication support needs of people with a disability, impairment, or sensory loss.
NHS England is working to support implementation of the AIS with awareness raising, communication, and engagement. The intention is to ensure that staff and organisations in the NHS are aware of the AIS and the importance of meeting the information and communication needs of disabled people using services.
NHS England published a revised AIS on 30 June 2025 to help ensure that the communication needs of people with a disability, impairment, or sensory loss are met in health and care provision. This guidance document is available at the following link:

A self-assessment framework has been developed to support providers of NHS and social care services to measure their performance against the AIS, and develop improvement action plans to address gaps in implementation, with further information available at the following link:
