We are aware of credible reports of the presence of the Rapid Support Forces, as well as other security forces, in the vicinity of protests in Khartoum. We have consistently urged the Sudanese authorities to refrain from using force against civilians.

As a leading member of the NATO Alliance, the UK contributes fully across the whole range of Alliance activities, including Air Policing, Initial Follow-on Forces Groups (IFFG) and the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF). For 2018 and 2019, our contributions to these are provided in the table below. In order not to prejudice the capability, effectiveness or security of the Armed Forces certain details are withheld.

Her Majesty's Government what action they will take to strengthen UN peacekeeping, including support for the rapid response capacity; and what role they envisage for the Royal Marines and SAS in this respect.
The UK is providing a leading voice on strengthening UN peacekeeping including through its permanent seat in the UN Security Council.
In September 2016, we hosted the UN Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial in London, with 74 nations and international organisations, and launched the UN reform agenda based on the '3Ps': better mission planning, increasing the number of meaningful pledges of troops and equipment, and improving the performance on the ground. It was a major peacekeeping conference, which secured 30 new pledges of troops and equipment, including for rapid response, and a reform-focused communiqué signed by 63 countries. The UK continues to drive forward this reform agenda with senior UN officials, Member States, and the UN Security Council.
We are working closely with the Canadian hosts of the 2017 Defence Ministerial, which will maintain a focus on strengthening UN peacekeeping through reform, matching UN capability needs with pledges, innovation in training, protecting the vulnerable, and improved early warning mechanisms. The UK also seeks to strengthen UN peacekeeping through deploying our own troops on UN peacekeeping missions, and by using our operational experience to inform UN reform policy discussions in New York.

The two Strike Brigades will provide a rapidly deployable agile force, with enhanced range, speed, protection and firepower, significantly enhancing the UK's ability to respond to international crises.
As previously announced on 3 September 2014 by My right hon. Friend the Defence Secretary (Michael Fallon) (Official Report, column 19WS) a contract has been awarded to deliver 589 Ajax vehicles. Detailed allocation plans have yet to be finalised. Fielding of Strike Brigades will start from 2018, delivering an initial operating capability in 2021 and moving towards Full Operating Capability from 2025.

The Readiness Action Plan, as agreed by Heads of State and UK Government at the Wales Summit, is a response to the changed security environment in Eastern Europe arising from Russia's actions in and around Ukraine. Its implementation will significantly enhance NATO's readiness and responsiveness. Work is progressing rapidly on enhancing the NATO Response Force's capabilities, including development of the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force.
