To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the implementation of the UK-USA Free Trade Agreement.
In May 2025, the UK and US announced the General Terms for the Economic Prosperity Deal (EPD), which will protect thousands of jobs, support key British industries and help drive economic growth.
We have implemented reciprocal duty-free quotas for beef, and the US has implemented a 100,000-unit annual quota for automobiles, reducing tariffs to 10%. On 24 July 2026, the US implemented the removal of tariffs on UK whisky and medical technology.
Discussions on the EPD continue.

To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of recent initiatives launched by the US Food and Drug Administration to accelerate the replacement of animal testing with human-relevant methods; and whether they intend to adopt similar measures.
The Government has reviewed recent US Food and Drug Administration initiatives to reduce animal testing in preclinical safety studies and is engaging with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency on accelerating the science-led adoption of alternative methods for drug development and testing. Through the Replacing Animals in Science strategy, the Government is investing in development, validation and regulatory uptake, including UK validation infrastructure and measures to build regulatory confidence. We will continue to monitor international developments, including in the US, and adopt approaches where supported by evidence and compatible with maintaining human, animal and environmental safety.

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what assessment she has made of the effectiveness of a) the US Cloud Act and b) the EU AI Act; and whether she has plans to bring forward similar legislation.
The UK’s starting point is relying on existing rules and regulations and empowering our regulators to consider how best to manage the opportunities and risks of AI. We continue to refine our approach to regulating AI and ensuring our law enforcement authorities have the powers they need to keep people safe. DSIT closely monitors international AI legislation from across the US, EU and elsewhere to ensure the UK’s regulatory approach remains suitable.

That is an interesting question. I will talk about the way in which the Royal Navy is developing. It used to be that the provision of a mine-hunting ship was the way in which mine-hunting activity was conducted. In looking for an expression of power and symbolism, a mine-hunter still...

The Visiting Forces Act (1952) sets out the legal basis for how jurisdiction for criminal offences is decided between the UK civil authorities and a Visiting Force’s service court martial. This is implemented in practice by the police, the Crown Prosecution Service and the UK courts as part of the criminal justice system. Following the deeply distressing case involving Dr Steele, officials are working across government to establish the full facts of how this process was enacted for that case.
To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the report from Dr Laura Murphy, The Manifest Modernization Act: Enhancing Visibility Into Forced Labor Risks in U.S. Supply Chains, published on 8 December 2025, and of the benefits of publicly available manifest data for air, rail and road.

The Government is committed to rooting out forced labour, human rights abuses, exploitative environmental practices, bribery and corruption. These abhorrent practices have no place in UK supply chains or the global economy, and we recognise the importance of transparency and effective due diligence in identifying and addressing those risks. We also engage with our partners internationally on these issues, including the United States.

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what assessment he has made of the competitiveness of the United Kingdom's AI research sector relative to that of the United States and China.
The UK has a thriving AI research ecosystem, with more than 5,800 AI companies, including global leaders like Isomorphic Labs, Arm and Wayve. These organisations are driving advances in scientific discovery and AI-enabled technologies. Reflecting this, the Global AI Index ranks the UK fourth in the world overall and fourth for AI research.
The AI for Science Strategy builds on UK strengths at the intersection of AI and public sector scientific research. Backed by up to £137 million, it sets out actions across data, compute, people and culture, and AI-driven science.
In June, DSIT and UKRI launched two UK AI Research Labs led by the University of Oxford and University College London, backed by up to £60 million. This gives the UK a strong stake in global efforts to shape the next generation of AI technologies.
International collaboration is a key part of strengthening our AI research sector. We will continue to work closely with bilateral and multilateral partners to expand opportunities for UK researchers and support cutting-edge AI research and innovation.

To ask His Majesty's Government what is the total cost of the operation of the Red Arrows display team visit to the United States of America, and whether it is funded in total or in part by the American government.
The cost of the tour is currently estimated at £1.6 million. This cost will be met primarily from the Red Arrows' existing flying hours allocation for the Financial Year 2026-27. A proportion of these costs would have been incurred irrespective of the US tour, as the Red Arrows would have continued to meet their display commitments in the UK.
The United States Government has not contributed funding towards the tour.

We will continue to engage with the US Administration, and with the UK autos industry, on how we can best deliver for them.
Supporting the sector remains a priority for this Government, and we will keep industry informed to support business planning and future investment decisions.
