To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, if she will make an assessment of the potential impact of improving transport connections between Coventry, Leicester and Nottingham on economic growth in the region.
Economic growth is the number one mission of this Government. The Department for Transport is playing a key role in this, as we recognise the potential for transport investment to have a significant impact on local economic development across the country, including for Coventry, Leicester and Nottingham.
My Department is currently developing an Integrated National Transport Strategy, which will set the high-level direction for how transport should be designed, built and operated in England over the next 10 years. It will set out a single national vision that will put people who use transport and their needs at its heart and empower local leaders to deliver integrated transport solutions that meet the needs of their local communities.

The scope for increased frequency is limited by current infrastructure which is being considered as part of the proposed Midlands Rail Hub project. In terms of capacity, CrossCountry has recently declassified First Class accommodation on services from Birmingham to Cardiff, Nottingham and Stansted Airport to provide a number of additional seats for all ticket holders.
The Department has funded 12 cascaded Voyager trains for CrossCountry Inter-city routes to provide additional capacity for passengers, including on routes that overlap with Birmingham to Nottingham services, thereby spreading demand across more carriages. Three of these trains are already in service, the rest will start in May.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether his Department has taken recent steps to improve the provision of long-acting reversible contraception in Nottingham.
The Government provides funding for contraception, both as an essential service which general practices (GPs) must either provide or arrange for the provision of to their patients through the GP Contract, and through the public health grant to local authorities.
Local authorities in England are responsible for commissioning comprehensive, open access sexual and reproductive health services, including the provision of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), to meet local demand. Integrated care boards may also commission GPs to offer LARC as an enhanced service to their local population, in addition to the service provided through the GP contract.
It is for Nottingham City Council and Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board to decide on commissioning arrangements in Nottingham based on an assessment of local need.

To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have, if any, to require the restoration of the hourly train service between Nottingham and Lincoln.
The weekday timetable currently provides an hourly direct service between Nottingham and Lincoln, with the exception of three gaps in each direction spread across the day. With EMR we will continue to monitor demand on this route and keep under review if further services can be operated.

No assessment has been made of rail’s market share of journeys between Nottingham and Lincoln, although for rail demand itself, EMR will monitor usage of their services.
That this House notes that Nottingham City Council is consulting on its 2021-22 budget that includes a proposed annual funding cut of £700,000 to the City’s Linkbus Network which would lead to a number of bus services being withdrawn; believes that those bus services play a vital role in connecting communities and supporting the local economy and therefore must be protected; is concerned that the proposed service cuts could increase social isolation, increase carbon emissions which would worsen air quality and have public health implications; calls on Nottingham City Council to withdraw those proposals and ensure that all Linkbus funding, services and jobs are permanently protected; and calls on the Government, as a matter of urgency, to publish its National Bus Strategy and for this to provide all local authorities, such as Nottingham City Council, with sufficient ring-fenced national funding to ensure that their bus services are protected.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Healthcare Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme follows a process of expert review through which research briefs, research applications and final reports are critically assessed by relevant individuals unconnected to both the decision making body and those who have prepared the material being assessed. The practice of peer review is very commonly used to inform decision making for scientific publications and grant funding. It involves colleagues in a relevant field of expertise, including patients, members of the public, subject experts, clinical staff, service managers and public health professionals. The NIHR selects all reviewers.
Expert review was undertaken for the CLOTHES trial, in accordance with NIHR HTA policy. This included one public and four expert representatives. Checks were carried out to ensure that all reviewers were suitably qualified and were not conflicted.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and an Independent Trial Steering Committee, appointed by the NIHR, assessed the study protocols during the course of the research. No concerns were raised. The study was also subject to scrutiny by the sponsor and ethical committees, as is the usual course of activity in such a trial.

The Government cannot comment in detail on this matter, which is the subject of police investigation. However, it is not for the Government to take action directly against the owners of the home. If the home is found not to have complied with any regulatory requirement, it will be for the organisation(s) responsible for enforcing those regulations to decide what action, if any, may be appropriate.
