The FCDO has a zero tolerance approach to bullying, harassment and discrimination and is committed to a workplace in which all employees feel respected and fairly treated. In the financial year 2019/2020, there were no settlements following claims of bullying, harassment or discrimination. In each of the subsequent three financial years, there were fewer than five such settlement payments. One settlement payment made in 2022/2023 was in response to a finding by the Employment Tribunal against the FCDO; all other cases were settled with no admission or finding of liability.

During the last three years, the FCDO has had no unplanned power cuts at its London sites, or at Abercrombie House; and three power cuts at our Hanslope Park site. The FCDO has resilient back up power at each site, designed to alleviate any external supply failure, and subject to regular and rigorous maintenance and testing.

The FCDO takes the protection of information extremely seriously. The FCDO has robust controls in place to manage risk to its assets including data and mobile devices.
The departmental security unit records and considers whether an investigation is appropriate for each reported loss from the Department. Any security pass reported as lost is immediately deactivated.

The Cabinet Office publishes results from the Civil Service People Survey on GOV.UK on behalf of all participating organisations in the survey. The findings include the proportion of staff responding to the survey who indicated to have been bullied and or harassed at work in the past 12 months (b) and, among those, whether they have been subject to sexual harassment (a). This would include sexual comments or jokes, unwelcome sexual advances, touching or assault.

The Civil Service has a zero tolerance approach to bullying, harassment and discrimination. Those found to be bullying, and/or harassing and/or discriminating against employees or customers can face disciplinary procedures including charges of gross misconduct leading to dismissal. Bullying, harassment and discrimination are in direct conflict with the Civil Service values of honesty, objectivity, impartiality and integrity. It is important that all employees feel respected and treated fairly within the workplace. Departments have their own HR policies and processes for reporting and resolving cases of bullying, harassment and discrimination.

FCDO consultancy spend in 2020-21 was £2.7 million. Total FCO plus DFID spend for years 2019-20, 2018-19, and 2017-18 was £3.0 million, £2.6 milion and £1.3 million respectively. Consultancy spend for 2021-22 will be reported in the FCDO's annual report and accounts, which will be published shortly.

FCDO staff travel between our offices in London and Glasgow on a regular and routine basis for their official duties. Where travel is unavoidable, all staff travelling within the UK and between England and Eurostar destinations should travel by train by default. Where necessary, UK domestic air travel is by exception only with approval granted by deputy director level or above.
Domestic flight numbers and rail mileage are published annually within the FCDO Annual Report and Accounts (from page 57), more detailed data regarding specific journey numbers between London and Glasgow is not readily available as it could only be disaggregated with significant work/time.
