To ask His Majesty's Government what is the total funding allocated to the police forces in Wales for the financial year 2025–26; and what are the anticipated allocations for (1) 2026–27, and (2) 2027–28.
To ask His Majesty's Government what is the total funding allocated to the police forces in Wales for the financial year 2025–26; and what are the anticipated allocations for (1) 2026–27, and (2) 2027–28.
Total funding to police forces in England and Wales will be up to £17.6 billion, an increase of up to £1.2 billion compared to the 2024-25 police funding settlement – a significant increase, and more than the increase last year.
Dfyed-Powys Police will receive up to £163.6 million in funding in 2025-26, an increase of up to £12.1 million when compared to the 2024-25 funding settlement.
Gwent Police will receive up to £197 million in funding in 2025-26, an increase of up to £14.3 million when compared to the 2024-25 funding settlement.

Details on force funding allocations for 2026-27 will be set out at the police settlement later this year.

The Government recognises that demands on police are changing and becoming more complex. Police funding increased by over £1bn this year, in-cluding council tax, the biggest increase since 2010, enabling the police to recruit more police officers and staff, tackle serious and organised crime and continue to protect the public from terrorism.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will receive their share of the apprenticeship levy calculated in line with the Barnett formula. This will be £460 million for the period 2019 to 2020. Wales received £128 million in the period 2017 to 2018.
Skills, including apprenticeships, is a devolved matter. Therefore, it will be for the devolved administrations to decide how funds raised from the levy should be used in their administrations.

We have provided a comprehensive funding settlement that enables police forces to carry out their important work and meet their financial obligations, including national insurance contributions.
In 2018/19 we increased total investment in the police system by over £460m. This includes £280m in force funding from increases in Council Tax precept income.

In those circumstances, is it not a bit ironic that the Gwent police force was sent up to Lancashire for the purposes of controlling the protesters? Given that the costs of such an exercise can sometimes become very great, can she give an assurance that all the costs incurred by Gwent will be paid for from central funds?

My Lords, as I am sure the noble Lord is aware, mutual aid between different police forces is very well established, and the costs for meeting those things are, of course, sorted out in the wash.

We have protected overall police spending and Counter-Terrorism policing in real terms since Spending Review 2015.Every Police & Crime Commissioner who maximised their local precept income in 2016-17 and 2017-18 is receiving at least the same direct resource funding in cash than they received in 2015-16.
