The Cabinet Office regularly publishes expenditure, broken down by supplier, on a monthly rolling basis on GOV.UK, including expenditure on the cross-government Transition public information campaign.
As part of this major campaign, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is running a strand of activity focused on UK nationals who live and work in EU and EFTA countries. The campaign focuses on four key actions UK nationals may need to take around residency applications or registrations, healthcare provision, passport validity and driving licences. The messages are tailored for each country so that UK nationals are aware of the actions that may apply to them. Communications centre on digital channels, radio, print media and a range of outreach events run by embassies locally. All activity signposts UK nationals to GOV.UK with specific information for each country.

Recognition of a range of academic qualifications, including qualifications for access to higher education, is covered by the Council of Europe/UNESCO Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Region, to which most countries in the European Region, including the UK, are signatories.
The UK National Recognition Advice Centre (UK NARIC) provides, on behalf of the government, advice on the comparability of international qualifications with those of the UK. UK NARIC is a member of the European network of national information centres that act as a primary contact point for the recognition of international academic qualifications.

The treatment of driving licences will depend on the outcome of the final deal. We are seeking a deal to ensure mutual driving licence recognition after the UK leaves the EU, so that UK driving licences will continue to be recognised as they are today. Such a deal is in the interests of both sides and we have started these discussions.
Irrespective of the outcome of our negotiations, our ratification of the 1968 Vienna Convention and 1949 Geneva Convention will ensure that UK licence holders can continue to drive after exit throughout the EU and EEA using an international driving permit document if necessary.

There are 6 Member States of the European Union who are not members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO): Austria, Cyprus, Finland, Ireland, Malta and Sweden. Of these, all except Cyprus are official NATO Partners, cooperating both through NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council and the Partnership for Peace programme.
The UK is committed to NATO’s Open Door policy, as enshrined in Article 10 of the Washington Treaty, which provides that any European state in a position to further the principles of the treaty and to contribute to the security of the North Atlantic area may apply to join NATO. It is for individual States to consider whether they wish to apply for NATO membership, taking into account their own defence and security considerations.

The EU has adopted new treaties, and amended existing ones, since the original Treaty of Rome in 1957. These changes have reflected the evolution of EU business. Developments in the Eurozone are likely to create the conditions for further treaty change in the future.
A number of different factors determine whether an EU Member State is required to hold a national referendum before approving a new EU treaty or an amendment to an existing EU Treaty. These factors include Constitutional obligations, legal or political precedent and the nature of the treaty or treaty change.
