Wind turbines and their hard standings are already ineligible under the basic payments scheme. Wind farms do not significantly hamper agricultural activity as they require widely spaced turbines and the blades are sited well above field level. Accordingly, the Government has no plans to make wind farms ineligible for payment.

It is not possible to give meaningful average costs of connecting different sorts of generation to the national electricity transmission system. Generators pay towards the costs of building and maintaining the network through on-going use of system charges. These charges are calculated on an annual basis and reflect the cost that each generator imposes on the network. They vary according to a range of factors which are not specific to a particular generation technology, including the capacity and location of the generator in question.
