Mr. Laurence Robertson: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how much money the European Union is spending in
the current year on providing literature about the EU in schools in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement. [62414]
Mr. Andrew Smith: [holding answer 8 December 1998]: I understand that money from a number of sources may be used by the European
Commission for this purpose. According to the Commission's Representation in the UK, I understand that, while the Commission can
identify the cost of some specific publications intended for distribution to UK schools, it cannot provide a global figure.
