As part of the decision to generally limit increases in local housing allowance to 1% in 2014-15 and 2015-16, the Government have set aside £140 million over two years to help people most affected by these new limits.
Our intention is that this funding will be used to increase the local housing allowance rates in areas where rent increases are causing a shortage of affordable accommodation.
This funding is not available until 2014-15 and further information will be made available later this year.

When we determine the areas to be exempt from the 1% uprating cap on local housing allowance in 2014-15 and 2015-16, we will consider the best and most timely evidence on market rents. This will include annual market data collected by the rent officer services.
