That this House congratulates the Government on its decision to allocate ??1.5 million to provide additional checks at ports of entry to reduce the import of infected meat; notes that in spite of the heroic work of HM Customs and Excise, hugh quantities of illegal drugs and contraband tobacco and alcohol are imported; acknowledges that no system can guarantee to keep out all infected meat; believes that the 20 day rule on animal movement is the best safeguard to restrict the spread of future diseases; and calls on the farm unions to end their irresponsible criticism of the rule.
