To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what the timeframe is for the proposed audit of continence services by the National Bowel and Bladder Health Project; and when the results of that audit will be published.
The National Bladder and Bowel Project Group will undertake an audit of clinical commissioning groups across all regions in England to assess the commissioning of continence services later this year. A more specific timeframe has not been set at this stage.

We are informed by NHS England that NHS Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group has received an unqualified audit opinion for each year since its inception. The audit covers a regularity opinion, findings regarding controls, value for money review and any other issues that require auditors to apply statutory powers and duties. This audit findings for each year are available to the public on its website:

All providers qualifying to provide continence services under Any Qualified Provider will be required to agree to the terms and conditions of the NHS Standard Contract. To qualify, providers will need to demonstrate that they meet robust criteria assessing quality as determined by commissioners.
All providers awarded contracts under Any Qualified Provider will have their continence services monitored through normal contract management arrangements. Providers qualified to provide continence services under Any Qualified Provider will be reviewed annually.
The last national report of the ‘National Audit of Continence Care: Combined Organisational and Clinical Report’ was published in September 2010 and is available at:

Further work has since been carried out to evaluate the 2010 audit, through seeking feedback from audit participants and the completion of a pilot audit to incorporate suggested changes. The report ‘Capturing patients' experience of NHS continence services: pilot phase evaluation report’ is available at:

A second pilot audit was also conducted on the feasibility of capturing information directly from patients on their experience of the continence care they received.
