That this House is amazed and appalled by the threats made by British Coal to miners in the North Yorkshire coalfield that should they take time off to accompany the Scottish miners' march from Glasgow to London during their passage through Yorkshire they would face dismissal; believes that this shows that some managers do not recognise either the rights of their workers or the importance of maintaining public support for the future of their industry; and calls upon British Coal at the highest level to remove these threats forthwith.
