I am grateful to my right hon. Friend for reminding himself and us that the ombudsman has, unusually, suggested that Parliament should get involved. Some were asking for £10,000 compensation per person. The ombudsman has recommended between £1,000 and just under £3,000. Could the Secretary of State indicate whether he will make a decision, and, if so, when and how much?
I am grateful to my right hon. Friend for reminding himself and us that the ombudsman has, unusually, suggested that Parliament should get involved. I thank my hon. Friend the Father of the House for his question. I cannot prejudge the outcome of the very detailed set of considerations. He makes reference to the amounts involved, which are considerable. As I have said, it is absolutely right that we look very carefully at the conclusions of that report and listen to what Parliament has to say in that respect.

That this House notes that in the UK, unlike for those with children born after the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act came into force on 13 November 2008, female same-sex couples with children born pre-2008 cannot both be legally registered as the child or children's parent; further notes that in some countries it is a requirement for a parent seeking to relocate to those countries with their children to be recognised as a parent and that there is currently no means in law for them to remedy this situation; and calls on the Government to take action to remedy this by introducing a legal mechanism for both partners in a same-sex couple with children born pre-2008 to have the same rights in law to be recognised as the child or children's parents as those same-sex couples with children born post-2008.
