That this House recognises that one in 14 of those aged between 15 and 24 who test for chlamydia is infected; notes that chlamydia often has no obvious symptoms; further notes that, if left untreated, it can lead to conditions including infertility, ectopic pregnancy and pelvic inflammatory disease as well as onward transmission of the infection to sexual partners; further recognises that chlamydia screening in England is now cost-effective according to the Health Protection Agency's modelling; welcomes the National Audit Office's review of the National Chlamydia Screening Programme which demonstrates how further savings could be made whilst increasing diagnosis and treatment of the infection; and calls on the Secretary of State for Health to reform and maintain the delivery of opportunistic chlamydia screening for young people in England to reverse the epidemic and instil good attitudes towards sexual health in young people.

That this House welcomes The Stroke Association and The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy's report, Moving On, which highlights the vital importance of ongoing physiotherapy to stroke survivors once they leave hospital; notes that many people who survive a stroke are left with a range of physical impairments, including paralysis, problems with movement, spasticity and pain; recognises that effective community-based physiotherapy services can help manage or overcome such effects, help survivors be more independent and less reliant on carers and the NHS and can help make long-term efficiency savings in stroke care; is concerned that a recent survey by The Stroke Association found that two per cent. of stroke survivors who felt they needed community-based physiotherapy did not receive any on the NHS and that 25 per cent. who did had to wait longer than one month for their first session; welcomes the Moving On report's new vision for a community-based physiotherapy service which provides NHS-funded care for all those who need it, ends fragmented transitions of care, meets personal need and recognises and values the vital role of carers; and calls on the Government and health and social care providers to work together to improve community-based stroke physiotherapy services for all who need them.

That this House expresses concern that 100,000 people across the UK die each year as a result of smoking; further expresses concern that smoking kills half of its long-term users, causes half the difference in life expectancy between the richest and poorest in society and that over 80 per cent. of smokers start before the age of 19; notes that it takes on average three to eight attempts to stop smoking; and urges the Government to be unrelenting in its efforts to protect children and tackle inequalities through effective tobacco control.

That this House supports the British Heart Foundation's Prescription for the UK's Heart Health, which contains the commitments needed to protect the UK's heart health for the coming decade; notes that heart and circulatory disease is the UK's biggest killer; calls for the significant recent progress made towards preventing heart and circulatory disease to be preserved; expresses concerns over new challenges ahead including demographic changes, shifts in the burden of disease and a more stringent financial climate; is further concerned that the prevalence of heart and circulatory disease remains disproportionately high amongst people living in disadvantaged circumstances and from particular ethnic groups; and calls on the Government to meet these challenges by setting out a renewed approach to tackling heart and circulatory disease in England to reduce its incidence to one of the lowest levels in Western Europe.
