Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has maintained centrally recorded data on the number of judicial reviews for the last two years. The total number of finalised judicial reviews recorded was 102 in 2011-12 and 110 in 2012-13. No central record has been kept of the number of reviews for earlier years and such information could be obtained only at a disproportionate cost.
The data includes judicial reviews where the CPS was the applicant as well as those where the CPS was the respondent. It is not possible to show only specific challenges made against the CPS because this information is not held centrally.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) policy on victims' right to review (VRR) will not affect the right of victims to seek a judicial review of a decision by the CPS. The VRR scheme provides the opportunity for victims to give effect to their right to seek a review of a CPS decision not to charge in accordance with the principles laid down in the case of Killick (R v. Christopher Killick [2011] EWCA Crim 1608).
