Julie Morgan: To ask the President of the Council what proposals he plans to put before the Select Committee on Modernisation of the
House of Commons for improving the system of public information relating to proceedings in the House. [51341]
Mr. Stephen Twigg: Much is already happening. Work is in hand on a redesign of the parliamentary website, and an experiment in web
casting proceedings in the House and its Committees is underway. The new visitor cafeteria and interpretation centre is scheduled to
open on Tuesday 14 May.
My right hon. Friend will keep this work under review, and make further proposals as necessary.

Mr. Gordon Marsden: To ask the President of the Council if he will consult the voluntary, business and trade union sectors on his
proposals to modernise the House. [41568]
Mr. Stephen Twigg: I understand that the Modernisation Committee has taken evidence from a number of individuals and organisations
as to how Parliament might be made more topical, relevant and effective. I have been working with the National Council of Voluntary
Organisations to ensure that the voluntary sector has a full input into this consultation, and am hoping to do more in the coming
months.
I know the Leader of the Commons is very keen to hear the views of as many people as possible on the contents of the memorandum he
presented to the Modernisation Committee in December. To this end I understand the Modernisation Committee is exploring the
possibility of an e-consultation.

Mr. Stephen Twigg: My right hon. Friend hopes that his proposals will make Parliament more accessible to all groups, including young
people. In addition, the parliamentary education service does a great deal to inform and involve young people.

Mr. Stephen Twigg: Used appropriately, electronic voting could have advantages for Members by reducing the time spent on divisions
rather than debate. The Select Committee on Modernisation of the House of Commons may wish to consider my right hon. Friend's
