Large Goods Vehicles: EU Countries

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what regulations govern domestic levies and charges on HGVs from EU member states traversing other member states.

[120237]

Answer

The Eurovignette Directive (Directive 1999/62/EC as amended by 2006/38/EC and 2011/76/EU) sets out a framework of rules for minimum vehicle excise duty rates for HGVs registered in EU member states, and rules for the functioning of tolls and charges for HGVs, including maximum daily charges. It does not mandate tolls or charging.
