Proceeding contribution from Ed Balls (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 30 March 2010. It occurred during Budget debate on Budget Resolutions and Economic Situation.
Budget Resolutions and Economic Situation
On the issue of whose advice was listened to over tax policy, a few days ago, on the question of reversing the rise in national insurance contributions, the shadow Business Secretary said:""We will only know if we can afford it in the"—" first emergency—""50-day Budget… The Budget is not just something you knock off for a TV programme."" Does he think that the shadow Chancellor ignored his advice not to offer something on a TV programme without knowing whether it is affordable?
