- To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what methods of depreciation his Department will apply in the current financial year to fixed assets in the preparation of departmental resource accounting balance sheets.

Mr. Maclean: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what methods of depreciation his Department will apply in the current financial year to fixed assets in the preparation of departmental resource accounting balance sheets. [97039] Mr. Spellar: The straight-line method of depreciation will be applied to fixed assets in the preparation of 1999-2000 Departmental Resource Accounts. This method is in accordance with the Treasury's Resource Accounting Manual, which follows, as far as appropriate, private sector accounting practice and standards issued by the Accounting Standards Board.
