Mr. Dalyell: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what response he is sending to the Brazilian authorities about their representations over the handling by HM Customs of three Lear's Macaws. [53461] Dawn Primarolo: Customs inquiries concerning the three Lear's Macaws are still in progress. Until these are completed the birds will remain in this country. Officials are, however, already in contact with the Brazilian authorities who have been offered the opportunity to view the birds to alleviate any concerns about their current welfare. The final re-homing of the birds will take full account of their welfare and the need to maximise the breeding potential of such an endangered species.
