- To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will hold discussions with the US Secretary of Defence on the operational effect of independence for Scotland on the Trident nuclear submarine fleet.

I have no plans to discuss this with the United States Secretary of Defence. Scotland will benefit from the basing of the new Astute class submarines alongside the Vanguard fleet at Faslane. The Government are not making plans for independence as we are confident that people in Scotland will continue to support the Union in any referendum.
