Protection from Harassment Act 1997

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice how many applications for injunction were made under section 3 of the Protection From Harassment Act 1997 in each of the last five years; on what grounds the injunctions were sought; and in how many cases the injunction was granted.
Answer

There were 361 applications for injunctions and 283 injunctions granted under section 3 of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 between April 2009 and December 2009 and 457 and 375 respectively in 2010. Comparable data for previous periods are not available.The Ministry of Justice does not hold figures centrally according to the ground on which the injunctions were sought under section 3 of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. This information could be obtained only through the examination of individual case files at disproportionate cost.
