Prisoners: Foreign Nationals

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice how many foreign nationals were serving prison sentences of (a) four years or less and (b) more than four years on the most recent date for which figures are available.
Answer

As at 30 September 2010 there were 3,365 foreign national prisoners serving sentences of less than four years and 4,320 serving sentences of four years or more (including indeterminate sentences).These figures have been drawn from administrative IT systems which, as with any large scale recording systems, are subject to possible errors with data entry and processing.
