AGE CONCERN WANDSWORTH

That this House deeply deplores the decision taken by the Conservative-controlled Wandsworth Borough Council to cut its funding to Age Concern Wandsworth; acknowledges that Age Concern Wandsworth is an organisation that is widely respected and trusted by local people, especially for the advice and information services that it has provided; understands that funding for this has now been stopped; notes the complete lack of consultation by the council with Age Concern and that no other organisation in the borough has the wish to take over these services; believes that as the London Borough of Wandsworth has one of the highest proportions of elderly or retired people in inner London, the forced ending of such services by Age Concern will deprive all the people of a specialised service that has been greatly used and appreciated; and calls on the Government to enter into discussions with the Leader of Wandsworth Borough Council with a view to reversing this deeply regrettable decision.
